RE: Strange visitor on Cape Cod

We're leaving first thing in the morning and we'll be staying close by, it would be exciting to watch this. When we go to Florida we usually always go to see the Manatees, my grandson adopted one a few years ago named Amanda. Sher

RE: New Collie

Probably most of us have a dog or two that we just wanted to "look at" Best way to get a new dog, they just grab your heart and you know your taking them home. Congrats! Don't forget the pics... Sher

RE: Synovi G3

Hi Cat..you remember our Sofie, she was a frisbee hound so when she was getting older she did pay a price for that. We had her on CosequinDS, we started her out on four a day, two at each feeding for a few months then cut it back to one each feeding until the day she died. By the end of the second week we started noticeing a little improvement and by the end of the first month a much greater improvment. That I think was 2003 and then in '04 she had to have the acl surgery and I kept her on it right through the whole ordeal and she recovered quite rapidly and her other leg never blew out as we were warned it would. I'm not saying that had anything to do with it at all, but until she was diagnosed with the mouth cancer she had a fairly pain free four years which I was very thankful for. Most people I know have had pretty good results with these types of supplements. Good luck, I hope yours feel better soon. Sher

RE: Clear and cool... really cool

Oh we've been in the low 30's with frost, days have been near or a little above 60 but now we're sunny and headed off to Cape Cod where it's supposed to be sunny and beautiful this weekend...but I still can't wait to head south in January, just going to hate the weather between now and then. Sher

RE: Warning/Please read and becareful

I think it's probably time to follow the old addage "follow your gut" If something feels off it probably is and in these times I'm sure there will be more of these occurances, so it wouldn't hurt to back off and ask for help. Glad your ok. Sher

RE: Doggywood at Dollywood

Susan is right, we always leave the fans on, we leave a radio on low and we leave the sun shades down, we have in the past also leave a tape recorder going just so we have an idea how they are behaving, we also always leave our cell number with a little note on our door just in case there is a problem or an emergency, we've never had a problem or complaint and our two dogs have always been more at ease in their own familiar enviroment. RE: Doggywood at Dollywood

I wouldn't, if your Chi is used to sleeping all day, in your camper I would think that the kennels would be very distracting and scary for her, just curious, but why would you change it now? Sher

RE: dog suckling on pillow?

When we got Lucy, the breeders had a teenage son who spent a lot of time with the puppies, when one was ready to go to their new home they were given a little care package and in it was a hot pink blanket that was made by this teenage boy, each one was different but what he did was sleep with it for a couple of days and then he put it in with all the puppies that last night. Lucy slept with that blanket for months, it was her secuity blanket, all the scents from her early life, she must have suckled on it because many times she would fall asleep with it in her mouth, I never actually saw her do it but I assumed that was what she was doing. RE: My little Papillon Lucy "fer" is a thief

Must be in the name...when our Lucy misbehaves she has the nickname of "lucifer" too, we've used it enough she actually responds to it. Sher

RE: Holy crow,, Guy fistfights shark to save beloved dog!!

We'd do the same for our dogs and since ours do swim in the ocean quite a bit we're always vigilant. In '05 we had our Sofie at Flagler beach in Fl. playing ball with her and we had to act real quick to get her out of a rip tide, she didn't care she wanted her ball, we got her in ok but lost the ball. RE: Did you buy the right TT???

We couldn't be happier, no issues, we did a lot of research and went to the dealer, he had the one we wanted, bought it and the rest is history. Sher

RE: cat cleans kitten

Our JJ, 13 yr male/neutered washes little Jesse's head and face all the time, it is a bonding thing with them. Once in a while Jesse will return the good deed but it' mostly the old guy taking care of the youngster. Aren't they adorable. Sher

RE: Cost of Cancer

What goes around comes around for sure...where I last worked I had a friend that had cancer, she missed time for treatments and medical trips to Boston, she worked in customer service and she never did go on FMLA but did take some time off after each chemo. The HR manager went to her one day and said "don't you think your stretching out this cancer thing a bit" well Peg was so hurt and upset by this, personally I'd be balistic with outrage...Peg did file a complaint with corporate and the HR manager was fired, not transfered, fired, she was the coldest and most uncaring HR manager I have ever met...but she got hers. I wish you the best, it might not hurt to call the state labor dept. with a few questions. My prayers are with you. Sher

RE: Social Security.....I hadnt heard of this before

I had a family friend who was on Social Security. He passed away last Wednesday the 17th. It was Thursday before I heard about it. When talking to his widow Thursday afternoon, Social Security had already made a claim on his bank account to retrieve 13 days worth of money they paid him that would have taken him through the rest of the month.........First I was surprised that SS would have recieved notice of his death that fast, they must monitor ss# and coronor's reports, Second, I thought the request was a little harsh to demand 13 days worth of money returned that would have supported both he and his wife.My parents died in 2005, father on Nov 23rd, mother on Dec 24th. SS took each of their last full month's checks back as per the rules and laws. You can file for a hardship exemption but you might not win. In the meantime they've got what little money they had left and you have to cover their last months expenses and burial expenses. The $250 "death benefit" is a joke, cost $1000 here for one person to be creamated. I don't understand why some have money taken back and some don't. I know for a fact that they did not take any back from my dad's account, I took care of all of his finances and my name was on his accounts, so I would know if even a dollar was missing. The other fact is SS is notified immediately when someone dies if they are in a health care facility (according to SS) in my Dad's case he was in CrownPoint Assisted living facility in Sebring, Florida under hospice care, SS already knew when I called them to report my father's passing. RE: Dog diabetes

Dr. Doug, what's up with the brewers yeast...I hadn't heard of this and my vet certainly never mentioned it? Sher

RE: Pet death question

I would have my pet cremated and returned home and would cry the whole rest of my trip. If I came across an injured animal I would not leave it to die I would do everything humanely possible to get help to have it taken to a vet and euthanized if they could not find an owner. I would pay for it myself. I cant leave anything suffer. Me too. Sher

RE: Dog diabetes

Our little Pom was diagnosed two years ago, it was impressed upon us that his diet and insulin injections were pretty strict, twelve hours apart, we stick to it as closely as possible, Zach doesn't always co operate though, he's not a dog to wolf down his food, sometimes he makes it more difficult. How do you feed him now, before you go to work, does he eat twice a day? Is he a good eater? Does he like his new food? Sher

RE: Dogs digging and need to stop!

Barb...is this Willow, if so I bet you've never had so many behavior issues wit one dog, she is a challenge. Lucy was digging under our deck, so we framed up lattice and barred access. Sue is right (dang) but a happy lab is a tired lab, we play a lot with Lucy, keep her busy and tired. Secondly, if possible I would use gravel or pea gravel of some sort under the deck if you don't want to block it off. Good luck, keep us posted. Sher
